Water For Makobe Children

News Flash

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE WELL WATER PROJECT IN MAKOBE KENYA

We are excited that for the first time beginning in August, 2004 there is clean well water providing the community with safe drinking water.

No longer will disease from unclean water be a problem for Makobe.

The water storage tanks provide enough water for the village for several days.

KENYA WELL-WATER PROJECT

OVERVIEW AND SCOPE

NEED

Clean water is desperately needed for the Makobe Children’s Home.

Rainwater runoff and stream water are the current sources.

Closest water source is a stream approximately five miles from the Children’s Home.

Women and children must walk 5 miles one way to retrieve water.

Boiling of the stream and runoff water does not always assure pure drinking water.

Children and the elderly are the most susceptible and many die each year.

PROPOSAL

Purchase drilling rig from DSS a Kenya supplier of well-water drilling equipment.

Contract Staff of Hope/Stepping Stones group to drill the well in Makobe to be operational by July 1, 2004.

Plan for mechanical well construction and fresh water pumping for Makobe well.

Upon completion of the Makobe well the drilling rig will move to Maasai Land for the drilling of additional water-wells.
