Special Needs Children

In preparation for the Baraka Teams 2001 visit to Makobe, it was suggested that children with special needs be included in the Vacation Bible School. As a direct result of this experience, a number of children who were traditionally "invisible" have become an integral part of the local society.

Among the most significant transitions in the lives of the children is the opportunity for "previously unavailable" formal education.

Baraka's involvement in the Special Education Project has included:

  • Refurbishing a long vacated classroom
  • Funding for an instructional aide
  • Funding for necessary supplies
  • New roof for school

Today, 20 children with special needs are receiving formal instruction. Additional children continue to emerge as part of the mainstream of village life.
