WELCOME

Welcome to the website for the Baraka Foundation: Caring for Children In Need. The Baraka Foundation is committed to supporting projects that give people the opportunity of helping themselves. The mission is to elevate the quality of life through partnerships with community leaders in areas of much need.

The African continent is the area of concentration and particularly the village of Makobe in Kenya. We are excited about the improvements that have been made, in this village, through the efforts of the Baraka Foundation. Here at the Baraka Foundation we continue to be amazed with how "so little goes so far!" Please read further as the challenge is presented in detail.

THE MIRACLE OF MAKOBE
Baraka Foundation and Westminster Presbyterian Church - working together to "breathe life" back into Makobe, Kenya.
  • Year 2001: Makobe is a dying community characterized by numerous orphans, children with special needs who are invisible, a school facing abandonment due to poor performance/low enrollment (70 students), critical health problems associated with the absence of clean water, etc. First WPC Mission Trip to Makobe. Construction begins on Makobe Children's Home
  • Year 2002: Makobe Children's Home opened for 21 orphaned girls.
  • Year 2003: New Dorm constructed, and Old Dorm converted into a dining hall

  • Year 2005: Eunice Nzavi undergoes reconstructive foot surgery and rehabilitation at Shriners' Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. In the face of East Africa's devastating drought, hundreds of surrounding area inhabitants stand in line to receive "life saving" clean water from "Makobe's Water Well".
  • Year 2006: Eunice Nzavi makes a gracious return to Makobe with her "new" feet, Makobe Primary School (180 students) is ranked in the top 10 of 300 schools in the district, Makobe has the only Special Education Unit in the district (18 students), five girls from Makobe Children's Home have qualified for and are attending Boarding High School.
  • Year 2007: Baraka Foundation is planning a 2007 Mission Trip to Makobe to finish construction of eight new classrooms at Makobe Primary School. Twenty-five mission trip travelers will witness the "Miracle of Makobe" first-hand!
